Bitumen: what to know
- Common paving grades: penetration grades such as 60/70 and 80/100
- Viscosity grades such as VG-30 and VG-40 are used in several markets
- Modified bitumen (polymer-modified) is used for heavy-duty roads and roofing
- Shipped hot in heated tanks; temperature control matters during loading and discharge
- Specification is verified by an independent inspector at loading and discharge
Tokenization and tracking
Bitumen is part of the wider product range of the Petroleum Energy Gas group. PEGSTO AG’s first token programme covers EN590 diesel; further products are planned under the roadmap and are subject to counterparty due diligence.
Bitumen in Singapore
Singapore refineries and terminals are a source of bitumen for regional road-building demand across Southeast Asia, where infrastructure investment is large. More on Singapore.
Bitumen in Switzerland
Switzerland uses bitumen in roads and roofing like any developed market, and Swiss financing and legal structuring can be applied to physical cargoes sold elsewhere. More on Switzerland.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between 60/70 and 80/100 bitumen?
They are penetration grades. 60/70 is harder (lower penetration) and suits warm climates and heavy traffic; 80/100 is softer and suits cooler climates.
How is bitumen transported?
Hot, in heated tanks on specialised vessels, tank trucks or drums, with temperature control to keep it pumpable.
Is a bitumen token available?
Not yet. Phase 1 covers EN590 diesel; see the roadmap for planned products.
